Child Advocacy and Assessment Program

The Child Advocacy and Assessment Program (CAAP) provides consultations and assessments around issues of child maltreatment, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect.

Care We Provide

We provide care for children who have experienced:

  • sexual abuse
  • physical abuse
  • emotional abuse (including intimate partner violence)
  • neglect

Care we provide includes physical or medical assessments, consultations to service providers and health care providers, and counselling and supportive services for children and youth and their families following exposure to maltreatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I get a copy of your assessment note?

Notes from our assessments are part of your child’s health record and a copy of their note will be sent to the referral source. A copy of the assessment note can be shared with you in accordance with the Hamilton Health Sciences Patient Privacy Statement. You can get the assessment note by submitting a written request (Consent to Disclose Personal Health Information form) to the Health Records Department. If you want to receive your records via email, please also complete the “Consent for E-mail Correspondence” form.

Our team consists of the following members:

  • Learners (trainees from various programs such as medicine and social work)

Referral Process

Most referrals to our program must be from health care practitioners (such as physicians, nurses, social workers). Referrals can be faxed to our program. Non-Urgent referrals can also be made by telephone to our program. Calls will be answered between 8am and 4pm daily through our administrative staff.

Urgent referrals can be made by child protection works or physicians by calling MUMC paging to the physician on call.
