Craig Laviolette, Chair
Mr. Laviolette is a Chartered Accountant and the Director of Finance at Siemens Energy, a global company specializing in the manufacture and servicing of power turbine equipment. He has lived and worked abroad and has had responsibility for staff located around the world. His public service includes serving on the Board of the Kidney Foundation, chair of the Company Campaign for the United Way and active involvement in Junior Achievement. He has been a member of the HHS Board since 2003 and has held the positions of Chair of the Audit Committee and Board Treasurer prior to becoming Chair of the Board.

 

    

 

 
Ms. Stacey Allerton-Firth
Stacey Allerton Firth is the Vice President of Human Resources for Ford of Canada. Ford's Canadian operations include a national headquarters, three regional offices, two branch offices, four vehicle assembly and engine manufacturing plants, and two parts distribution centres. In this role, Stacey has responsiblilty for all aspects of human resources and labour relations for Ford's 8,000 employees across Canada. A 2006-2009 winner of WXN's Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100, Stacey is an active community volunteer and mentor for women in business. She currently serves as the Board President of the Rosedale Tennis Club and is a member of the Board of Directors for Ford Motor Company of Canada, Ltd.

 

 

Mr. Paul Chapin ,Treasurer
Is President and CEO of Goodwill, The Amity Group, a local not for profit, which as part of an international organization, is dedicated to using the social enterprise model to help individuals with barriers to employment find work. Paul also serves as Vice Chair of the International Board of Goodwill Industries International, a major workforce development organization and the world's largest used goods retailer. Prior to joining Goodwill in 1999, Paul had an extensive career as the President and CEO of serveral hospitals across Canada. He was active professionally during this period, having been Chair of the B.C. Health Association; President of the Health Administrators Association of B.C.; and Chair of many industry committees. An active community volunteer, Paul currently serves as Board Chair of St. Peter's Residence at Chedoke and has previously served on the Board of St. Peter's Hospital, as Chair of the Board for the United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton, as Chair of a Community College Board; and as Board Vice Chair of a Crippled Children's Centre. He was an active Rotarian, for 27 years, having served as the President of three Rotary Clubs and as Assistant Governor at the District level.

 

 
 

Norm Col 
Norm is a Chartered Account with Deloitte & Touche specializing in tax compliance and planning for several international corporations. Norm's past community involvement includes the Burlington Performing Arts Centre Capital Fundraising Committee, Burlington Chamber Business Excellence Awards Selection Committee and, a Board of Directors member for the Hamilton Jr. Bullldogs Hockey Association. He is also a member with the Canadian Tax Foundation as well as the Financial Executive Institute.

                        
 

                           
Lloyd Ferguson
Recently elected as a Councillor for the City of Hamilton, representing Ancaster, Lloyd Ferguson sits on the Economic Development and Planning Committee and the Public Works Committee.  He also has appointments on 12 other community committees.  Lloyd recently retired as the General Manager of Dufferin Construction Company, a heavy civil engineering contractor with more than 850 employees and annual sales of approximately $350 million. In the past, he has served the construction industry in various capacities and his active community involvement includes service as a trustee on the Wentworth County Board of Education, and as a member of the boards of the Hamilton Region Conservation Authority and the Hamilton Utilities Corporation.

 

                           
Glenn Gibson 
Is the Global Chief Strategy Officer for Crawford & Company who is the largest claims administration company in the world with over 11,000 employees and plus $1 Billion in revenue. In this role, he serves on Crawford's Global Executive Management group where he formalizes, implements and directs short-and-long term strategic planning and project development. He is also a Past Chairman of the Board for the Insurance Institute of Canada. His volunteerism extends into many circles where he's delivered over 350 presentations globally and published over 250 technical articles relevant to police, fire and insurance services. 

 

                           
Anita Isaac
Retired health professional with over 30 years hospital management experience. A 2001 winner of the John C. Holland award for Professional Achievement she has been actively involved as a community volunteer for many years. Her community service includes past member of the Hamilton/Wentworth District Health Council, Board member of The Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice and a Big Sister for over 20 years. Past Board member of the Ancaster Seniors Centre and The Diverse Community Achievement Centre. Anita is currently Chair of the Official Board for Steward Memorial Church. President of the Zonta Club of Hamilton 1 2008-2010 and a member of the Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion Health Task Force.  

  

 

 
Ms. Julia Kamula
Julia Kamula is the Execuitve Vice President Operations, Central Canada for Sun Media Corporation. Julia oversees in excess of 100 daily and community newpapers operations, magazines and online properties in Ontario. Previous to this, she has also held posts as Senior Vice President of Operations for Osprey media LP and Publisher of the St. Catharines Standard and Niagara Publishing Group. Julia has been active on a number of industry-related and community focused boards and associations most recently as a Brock University board trustee, chairing the Capital Projects and Facilities Committee.

  

Dr. John G. Kelton
Ex officio
Dr. John Kelton is a hematologist, an award-winning researcher and Dean and Vice-Presidenet of the Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University, as well as the Dean of its Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. Trainied at the University of Western Ontario and Duke University, Dr. Kelton joined McMaster in 1977.  The focus of his personal research for more than 30 years has been the study of blood platelets and his work has been recognized with many awards, including induction as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.  He also holds a Canada Research Chair.

Ms. Mary Catherine Lindberg
Mary Catherine is a pharmacist and senior management professional with a background in management of major health operations, programs and support services. She has served as the Executive Director of the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario and worked in the Ontario Ministry of Health holding a number of positions including Assisatant Deputy Minister, Health Insurance and Related Programs. Ms. Lindberg's volunteer experience includes membership on the Patent Medicines Prices Review Board, Green Sheild of Canada, Centennial College and the Cardiac Care Network.

  

Murray T. Martin

President and CEO for Hamilton Health Sciences. Mr. Martin recently served as Chair of an Ontario Hospital Association Committee that advised on the creation of a Wait Time Strategy for Ontario and is a past Chair of the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario. He was also a member of the federal Ministry of Health steering committee that created the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), a federal agency responsible for funding health research in Canada. Mr. Martin acts as the secretary of the HHS Board.  

 

 

Dr. Pierre Major

Vice President, Medical Staff Association

Dr. Pierre Major's medical and research career has entered its fourth decade. He remains very active in research and education, having recently received the Outstanding Clinical Teachers Award by the Department of Oncology at McMaster. His current research focuses on harnessing viruses to attack human cancer cells. He developed a widely used blood test to monitor patients with advanced breast cancer. Dr. Major is a member of the Medical Advisory Board of the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada and co-chair of the board of the Cancer Advocacy coalition of Canada. He is very active in advocating for excellence in patient care and has recently spoken at a breakfast meeting at Queen's Park with Minister Smitherman, and in Quebec city with the Quebec Minister of Health. Dr. Major's objective is to see all patients through out Canada receive comprehensive, timely, publicly funded cancer care. He is an advocate for accountability and trasparency in health care management. Dr. Major is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed paper, books chapters and review article.

   

  

 

Dr. Stephen Puchalski

Chair, Medical Advisory Committee
Dr. Puchalski is a member of the Hamilton Health Sciences Department of Anesthesiology and an Associate Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at McMaster University. He received his Medical Degree and Post Graduate training at McMaster University. He has been active in Medical Education, where he has been the Residency Program Director for the McMaster Anesthesia Program during which time he received the Canadian Anesthesiologist's Society Clinical Teaching Award. He is an active Cardiac Anesthesiologist with a special interest in intra-operative echocardiography.

 

Mila Ray-Daniels
Mila Ray-Daniels is a marketing and communications executive with extensive experience in the financial, healthcare and nonprofit sectors. Mila has served on boards and committees of a number of organizations including the Collegium of Work and Learning, the Financial Planners Standards Council, Vartana and the YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington.

 

   

Mr. Gary Reynolds
Gary Reynolds is the Chief Risk Officer and Corporate Secretary of De Lage Landen Financial Services Canada Inc. Gary has been in the financial services industry for over 30 years, and has experience in each of the leasing, banking and credit union segments. On a professional basis, Gary is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers, a Chartered Financial Planner registered with the Canadian Institute of Financial Planners, and a member of the Canadian Finance & Leasing Association. Educationally, he holds an MBA from the University of Western Ontario (Ivey School of Business). Gary was formerly a Director, St. Peter's Hospital. 

  

Mark Rizzo, Vice Chair
Mark Rizzo C. Dir is a Vice President, Investment Advisor with CIBC World Markets Inc. in Hamilton. Mark provides investment advisory services to both institutional and private clients. Mark has worked with many organizations in establising sound investment Principles that allow his clients to meet their investment objectives. Previoulsy, Mark has served as a member of numerous charitable boards such as the YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington. He currently is a board member of the Hamilton Club and the Art Gallery of Hamilton and is a past Chair of St. Peter's Health System, St Peters Long Term Care Centre and the Royal Botanical Gardens.  

 

 
Karen Shea
Karen Shea graduated from the University of Toronto Law School in 1991 and was called to the bar in 1993.  Karen joined the Hamilton Crown Attorney's office in 1994.  Prior to practicing law, Karen was a registered respiratory therapist.  Karen has been an active member of several community advisory committees, including the McMaster Children's Hospital Development Council.  She was the recipient of the Rotary Club of Hamilton AM Vocational Award in 2005 for leadership and continued involvement in the community. 

 

 

Gary Sohal
Gary Sohal is the President and CEO of Audcomp group of companies. He is an energetic, hands-on leader. His dynamic management style has allowed him to provide both vision and direction to his IT companies in North America and Asia. Mr. Sohal has founded many start-up companies and grew them into large organizations and sold them to multi-national conglomerates. Mr. Sohal enjoys contributing back to the business community and his alma-mater. He currently serves on the McMaster University Executive Cabinet, McMaster University Faculty of Engineering Dean's Advisory Board and the McMaster University/Mohawk College-Bachelor of Technology Advisory Board. He has previously held positions in the Hamilton Business Executive Organization Board of Directors and the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a member on the Board of Directors for the Hamilton Wentworth Victorian Order of Nurses.  

 

 

Dr. John VanderMeulen

President of the Medical Staff Association
 Dr. VanderMeulen is the Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology at McMaster Children's Hospital and a Professor of Pediatrics at McMaster University. He received his medical degree from the University of Toronto and his specialty and basic research training through Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. In 2006 he was awarded the Canadian Diabetes Association's presitigious Frederick G. Banting Award for his many contributions to pediatric diabetes.
