About Us

The Intensive Care Unit is a unit where patients receive constant care and are closely watched by a highly specialized health care team.

Remember you are not alone. The ICU team is here to support you and your loved one. Patients who are in the ICU are usually critically ill or unstable. The goals of the ICU are to:

  • Provide specialized treatment and care to help the patient get the fullest possible recovery
  • Help to stabilize the patient's condition

Ways to give

The generosity of our community has helped the INTENSIVE CARE UNIT to remain a leader in medical advances and live up to their excellence in patient care, research and education.

Many want to give to the Juravinski hospital to say thank you for the treatment received for their loved ones or themselves. There are many ways to give to HHSC. Please ask the bedside nurse or charge nurse. Forms are located outside the ICU or click here for more information.

Critical Care Surge- Disaster and Pandemic Planning

The Surge Management and Capacity Management Program is a program funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to ensure that critical care units in the province can manage critical care surge (many people needing critical medical care all at one time) without compromising patient safety, emergency department wait times or surgical wait times. The Juravinski ICU has successfully developed  a surge capacity plan and educated all staff involved. At the Juravinski site, the ICU and CCU are continuing efforts with their surge capacity plan. This continues to ensure patient safety with the focus on getting the right patients to the right service and using best practice for patients in Critical Care.

U Rock awards-Staff acknowledgments'

To continue to enhance patient and family centered care we have developed the "U Rock" awards. These are given to staff by their peers, patients and  patient families to recognize outstanding caring and kindness.

What is new for the ICU?

The ICU, along with many other departments at the Juravinski hospital, moved on August 2010 into a brand new facility. The new ICU has 13,200 square feet of space.
